Abstract
This study explores the Wife-Sister Episodes in Genesis, examining the complexities of human nature and the challenges of navigating cultural and social norms. Using the Faith and Trust Theory and Deception and Consequences Theory as theoretical frameworks, this qualitative study analyzes the biblical accounts of Abraham and Isaac's deceptions in Egypt and Gerar. Data were gathered through secondary sources, including biblical commentaries, scholarly articles, and books. The study reveals that the patriarchs' deceptions had serious consequences, including conflict and mistrust, but God's sovereignty and protection shine through in each episode. The study highlights the importance of honesty and trust in relationships, as well as the role of faith and trust in God's protection and sovereignty. The findings have significant implications for modern Nigerian contexts, particularly in the areas of relationships and faith. Nigerian Christians can learn valuable lessons from the patriarchs' experiences, including the importance of trusting in God's sovereignty and provision, and avoiding the temptation to rely on human wisdom and deception. By studying these episodes, Nigerians can gain a deeper understanding of God's character and promises, and learn to trust Him in their own lives. The study concludes that trusting in God's goodness and provision can bring comfort, hope, and strength to individuals and families in the face of uncertainty and adversity.
